Stability Balls
A stability ball, also often known as a Swiss ball, is one of the forms of exercise balls that is most commonly used by people who are starting into exercise or have exercise regimens that are for improving overall fitness and not specific for certain athletic sports (although some athletes use stability balls for some exercises as well). The firm 65cm stability ball is usually a plastic ball that is filled with air; though it is firm it has some flexibility. These stability balls / Swiss balls are large enough that you can put them between yourself and the floor or wall and rest your weight against them. The stability ball exercises that you perform with Swiss balls in stability ball training help to develop balance.
Often exercises for the stability ball are similar to their plain analogues which are performed with no gear. For example, a stability ball workout may contain exercises such as sit ups and push ups. In stability ball workouts such as these the stability balls are used as a method of support to focus the effort of the stability ball user on one part of the body (one arm or leg, etc.). To develop your balance further when you are done with your exercises you can sit on the stability ball, and there are a variety of core exercises on the stability ball (which you can find examples of online with free printable stability ball exercises) that specialize in using the ball to develop one's sense of balance and the strength of the basic muscles in one's torso.
While most gyms today have some form of stability ball that you can use for weider stability ball exercises, you don't have to pay money to a gym to use a stability ball. You can find books at the library full of illustrations of exercises on the stability ball and buy inexpensive inflatable stability balls at the department store or fitness store that you can use at home for a nearly free stability ball workout. Stability ball exercises should be just about free for you to do; this is why stability balls are frequently purchased by people who are starting to do simple workouts at home and want to be able to augment their basic exercises with something that gives them support. With a little reading and perhaps some local instruction you can quickly become accustomed to the movements of an exercise ball and develop the balance required to use it in regular exercise.
