Pedometers
A pedometer is a device that is used to measure the number of foot steps that a person takes. Many people today choose to make walking, jogging or running a large part of their exercise regimen, and with good reason. These activities are great for burning fat and can be easily done without spending a lot of money or buying a lot of special equipment. Pedometers are one kind of fitness accessory that can help one to undergo a walking, jogging or running fitness program by recording the number of steps that one has taken in a day, which allows a person to try and break their own records or tells a person exactly how much exercise they still need in order to get to their allotment for the day and reach their current walking exercise goals.
Who invented the pedometer? While many people do not realize this, pedometers were invented by Thomas Jefferson (one of many things that he invented along with the dish Macaroni and Cheese, the hideaway bed and more, that he released for free to the public without applying for any patents). What is the best pedometer on the market? According to pedometer review sites online many of the best current pedometer watch products are produced by the Omron company. The Omron digital pedometer line includes the Omron walking style pedometer, the Omron hj-112 pedometer and other Omron pedometers such as a GPS pedometer that uses satellite tracking in order to directly know the distance that one has traveled and combine that with the number of steps one has taken to give a complete picture of the kind of work out you have had and how much energy you have burned.
As you can see there are several different types of pedometers. While most simply clip onto one's belt (since the belt is the best place on the body to measure a step by the upwards and downwards motion - most pedometers, especially the free pedometers that you can get with some promotions, use small mechanical arms that sense this movement), there are also pedometers that can be clipped elsewhere with more advanced sensors, or pedometer systems that communicate wirelessly from a step info detector to the receiver on your wrist. A free pedometer will obviously tend to be the cheaper kind that you just attach to a belt and stop when you want to check on it. Some pedometers with more functions try to give you advanced information by estimating the distance you have traveled by the length of time between steps and the number of steps, although it isn't accurate unless you are using a GPS pedometer as mentioned above. Pedometers make it possible to better know your progress while walking and thus to have a more well informed exercise session.
