Steppers
Steppers are the short name for what are known as stair steppers. A stair stepper, or aerobic stepper machine, is a device that simulates the act of stepping up onto stairs. This can refer to a stepper workout machine which has moving steps that are pushed up one after the other when you depress the opposite step, or this can refer to any kind of simple platform or comparatively simple device which you place on the floor in front of you and step up onto and down off of (as are often used in group classes in gyms and for home exercise in front of a recorded home exercise video). Stepper exercise with one of these simple devices is a mid to high impact exercise because by actually stepping up and down you put some pressure on the knee joints and ligaments. This is the idea in that you can strengthen these areas and improve your bone density and the health of your legs by making use of the stepper. You can also get a good low impact exercise with the mechanical exercise steppers that more follow your movement (or a similar elliptical machine).
There are other sorts of exercise stepper such as a lateral stepper that can help you to develop slightly different and related muscles in your legs. Stepper exercise is also great for your body as a whole because when you work out using an aerobic twisting stepper or any other kind of mini stepper, you get your heart racing and your blood pumping, your lungs bringing oxygen into the body and your body as a whole is energized and given an aerobic workout. This kind of aerobic exercise is great for the heart and for your endurance and holistic sense of health.
Among the more common varieties and brands of steppers that you can find are the Keys Cardiomax stepper and the Gaiam Mini stepper. Typical steppers of this type are small enough that you can easily fit them someplace around your home, no matter how crowded your home is. If you can clear a small space on the floor to use your stepper, you can exercise on it whenever you have time. Parts for stair stepper devices that have a mechanical element are also readily available and steppers tend to be easy to repair compared to other kinds of exercise equipment. Good luck improving your health with steppers.
