Rowing Machines

A rowing machine, as its name suggests, is a machine that allows someone to practice the movement of rowing while not in a boat. Generally the design of rowing machines is such that the user sits on a bench and, leaning forward, takes hold of handles with both hands. The user then pulls back along with the handles against a source of resistance that is hydraulically connected to the handles. This resistance is variable as with other forms of hydraulic weight exercise machines. These are the basics of how to use a rowing machine. Of course, one must be careful to use the proper rowing machine techniques and use correct form when making use of a rowing machine. The muscles used with rowing machine exercises are put under a lot of stress and proper form is necessary to make sure that you do not stress your muscles unevenly to try to compensate for a lack of strength or try to incorporate other muscle groups that are not optimal to involve in the motion of rowing.

Some of the best rowing exercise machines include the Concept 2 rowing machines and the Kettler Coach rowing machines. Of the Concept 2 rowing machine and the Kettler Coach rowing machine, the Kettler rowing machine sometimes comes out on top in a rowing machine comparison on rowing machine reviews sites or in exercise equipment magazines. Of course, any of the rowing machines that are in common use today are much better than the original rowing machines that were first developed a little over a century ago - the earliest rowing machines were created for training professional rowers for races and were seen as torture machines by the athletes. In modern times, the performance of athletes on rowing machines during the training period before a race is often used to decide who will be placed where in the boats - those who consistently do the best on the rowing machines are put in the same boat together so they will have performance that is the most in unison.

If you choose to buy a used rowing machine or used rowing machines to put together a training facility or gym that will be open to the public, make sure the hydraulics are high quality and still in working condition or it may be far more difficult to perform the rowing motion than would be indicated by the amount of weight that exercisers select when using the rowing machines. If you are simply looking for a rowing machine for your home gym, it may be best to simply buy a new rowing machine.
